Get to Know Breadfruit

Let us get to know breadfruit. Breadfruit is a popular staple food in the South Pacific. Breadfruit can be boiled until tender and eaten without the skin. Breadfruit is gluten free, starchy carbohydrate that is low in fat and cholesterol.  Breadfruit can be cut in quarters boiled for 12 to 15 minutes until tender where your fork can easily pierce right through. What makes this food special is that due to high yield it can help reduce world hunger. Instead of eating potatoes or rice, breadfruit can be eaten instead with combination of fish or meat.

A lot of Pacific Islanders eat breadfruit instead of rice or potatoes. Breadfruit is also beneficial for your health. It is rich in fiber and high in antioxidants. Breadfruit is also good for heart health.  In many diets, some prefer to eat gluten free. Breadfruit is gluten free rich in fiber, iron, copper, phosphorus, thiamine, vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium and niacin.  For those who are battling diabetes, breadfruit is low on the hyperglycemia index that can help you combat diabetes.

I enjoy breadfruit by slicing it into quarters thinly  like potato chips, lightly salted, then I would fry in coconut oil. Make sure you save some for you first before you share with your friends or family because it will be gobbled up very quickly.

By knowing more about breadfruit you will appreciate it more and make it  superfood of the future.
