One of our stop when we visited Los Cabos , Mexico is San Jose del Cabo. A more laid back town in comparison to its sister city Cabo San Lucas, yet offers a rich history and authentic Mexican charm.
The city is otherwise known as Old Town and there is a beautiful main square plaza called Plaza Mijares also known as La Plaza by locals. Here lets explore what are the things to do in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
The historic district is the heart of the town where the church dating back to 1730, town hall, Plaza Mijares along with historic building full of art galleries, artisan shops and restaurants are located. The square is the gathering spot for locals and visitors, a beautiful place to just sit back and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere .The plaza have some benches and beautiful palm trees.
You can also admire the gazebo in the middle of the square, The plaza is quite large and quaint without the hustle and bustle of Cabo San Lucas. Other iconic building on this town is San Jose del Cabo Church, was founded by the Jesuits in 1730. It also pays homage to the site of one of the martyred priest where the church now stands.
If your are seeking for authentic Mexican artisan products, San Jose del Cabo has one of the most amazing selection. The charming town provides one of a kind pieces like handpainted plates, bowls, as well as home decor, colorful clothing, ornaments and silver jewelry.
The square is a nice place to walk around and visit small local arts and gift shops. I enjoy looking around and I am fascinated of how much love , detail and work the talented artist put into a piece. My daughter has pick up a maracas toy which she love to play with.
San Jose del Cabo, Mexico overall experience was wonderful. The town is neat and take your moment to stroll along the charming streets. You get to appreciate simple living and friendly locals as well.
