The most revered and largest Bhuddist temple of the many temples in Phuket, Thailand is Wat Chalong or Chalong Temple. Otherwise known as Wat Chaithararam located in Cabo Fa West Road, Chalong Subdistrict. The temple is dedicated to the highly reverend monks who helped Chalong Subdistrict’s citizens fight against Chinese Rebellion in 1876.
Wat Chalong Phuket grand pagoda Chedi which dominates the area contains the splinter of a venerable Buddha and is kept inside a glass case. He is known for his knowledge of herbal healings. Take your moment exploring the temple and admire the intricacies of the architecture, beautiful wall paintings, and displays of Buddha’s life history. Dress respectfully, no sleeveless and skirts above the knee. Take off your shoes and remove hats or caps before entering the building . There is no admission fee.
Wat Chalong Phuket is a historical landmark and a must see places in Phuket. The 60 meters tall Chedi have three floor with a majestic view of the entire temple ground. You can also see the nearby Big Bhudda atop the hill. Thai Buddhists and other visitors come to pay respect to the Buddha by lighting candles, also offering flowers. Once in a while you will hear a firecracker sound, another way of showing gratitude to answered prayers.
