 Alaska, The Last Frontier has so much to offer for adventurers and nature lover.  If you happen to be in Juneau, the Mendenhall Glacier Alaska is a must see destination.  The glacier is part of the many Juneau Ice Field  and the Tongass National Forest. 

Just 13 miles away from downtown Juneau, you can take a shuttle, a bus or a taxi to get there.  Once arrived, you can visit the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center which provides information about the park.

The park’s visitor center also offers majestic views of the glacier and you can observe the ever changing wonder of this spectacular and colossal scenery around you.  You can also watch a short video about the magnificent glacier and have a pleasant conversation with the friendly park rangers.

To experience the splendor of the Mendenhall Glacier Alaska, trek into a short hike and get up close to this wonder. It was a little foggy when we were there however the hike along the trail surrounding the terrain is enjoyable.  You can see some icebergs floating on the water and the powerful cascading waterfall greets you with the stunning glacier at the backdrop. 

 

 

The Nugget Falls freely flows into the lake cascading down the mountainside.  Take your moment and enjoy the sprawling view in front of you.  The water mist and the roaring sound of the fall  gives you a new perspective how wonderful the earth is.

You can also head into scenic photo point trail, a short path along Mendenhall lake and have an unobstructed view of the glacier. It is an ideal place to take photo and capture moments with your adventure to the park.  You can watch the blue icebergs breaking off the glacier and floats into the Mendenhall lake  which reminds us of the natural  and constant change of the landscape.

Best  time to visit the Mendenhall Glacier Alaska is May through October.  It is best to dress in layers to be comfortable in your journey.  For another kind of thrill, you can go for a hike to ice caves or helicopter tours which provides breathtaking sights of the crystal like blue glacier.
