A favorite best things to do in Maui Hawaii is taking a drive to Hana. This activity will be a whole day event. Make sure to bring camera or your phone with you for wonderful scenic pictures. Bring some snacks and drinks with you to keep you alert while either driving or enjoying the view.

This is a long drive that can take about 3 hours depending if you take lots of stops along the way to capture breath taking views. Make sure to bring swim trunks or bathing suit with you and a towel. On your drive you will find water falls such as “Twin Falls.”

2. Visit Iao Valley

Right in Wailuku Town where the city center is located. You will find old shops, restaurants, and government services in this area. But a quick drive towards the mountain “Mauka” will bring you into Mountain where you will find Iao Valley. Here you will find stream and local plants along the valley.

A nice hike up the stairs will lead you to a great view overlooking the valley. Make sure to bring with you some bug spray and some cash with you to pay for parking. Here is a perfect spot to meditate and listen to the water rushing down the stream. If you want to take a dip in the stream you are welcome to do so as well. You will find some locals barbecuing in the park or taking a dip in the stream to cool off.

3. Experience Haleakala Sunrise or Sunset

If you want to feel the power of the universe. I recommend you take an early morning drive to Haleakala to capture the beauty of sunrise. Here you will find the majesty of the universe and its beauty.

Seeing the sunrise will make you feel powerless knowing that you are just a small part of something big. Make sure to bring a jacket and some hot cocoa and coffee with you because up there can be really cold.

4. Relax at Makena Beach

Makena Beach, in Maui, Hawaii

After waking up early and getting really cold. Now is time to heat up and find the closest beach. Maui has lots of beautiful beaches. I recommend Makena Beach in Wailea. Most of the luxury resorts are found in Wailea and here you will also find Makena Beach also known as “Big Beach” among the locals.

White sand, crashing waves, and nice view of neighboring Island of Kahoolawe. If you are daring and wondering why they call it “Big Beach” it is because next to it there is a small area hidden behind the rocks called “Little Beach.”

As you would might expect, behind the rocks and so called “Little Beach” here you can toss your clothes on the side and feel the water, sand, touching your skin. Yes, clothes is optional.

5. Whale Watching or Sunset Sail

Mother Whale

If you visit Hawaii from between November and March this would be the best time to whale watch. The ocean between Maui, Lanai, and Kahoolawe islands has the best whale watching tours you will find among all the Hawaiian Islands.

During this period, the Humpback whales would annual migrate to Hawaii. If the scheduling is not the best time for you, not a problem you can always do sunset sail as well.

When visiting Hawaii I always recommend shop local. Here you will help the local businesses that rely on visitors. On Lahaina Front Street you can walk the boardwalk and take magnificent photos of the ocean and neighboring islands of Lana’i and Molokai.

There are wonderful restaurants, art galleries, and shops. My favorite is the ice cream shops that you can get while walking Front Street.

7. Snorkeling off Molokini

Snorkeling. Maui, Hawaii

If you love the water the one of the best snorkeling tours on island is to visit Molokini where you will find a great snorkeling spot. To get to Molokini you will need to catch one of the tours that goes to the small island daily.

8. Golf, golf, and golf

I have not forgotten about the the golfers. Hawaii has the most beautiful courses throughout the world. You can practically golf all year long.  Depending where you are staying at, you can find golf courses at Kaanapali or at Wailea.

However, if you are a serious golfer, I recommend the Plantation Course at Kapalua Bay. This is the home of the PGA TOUR’S Hyundail Tournament of Champions each January.

9. Old Lahaina Luau

When you visit Hawaii with your family you must go and experience a Luau especially if you have not done it before. Make sure when you go to the Luau you go with an empty stomach.

Here the food are fabulous and you get to experience traditional Hawaiian food such as Laulau, Kalua Pork,  Lomilomi salmon, and of course poi. You will be treated with magnificent Hula show and photo opportunities with the cast.

10. Get Adventurous at Maui Adventure Park

Sometimes you need to stop swimming or lounging on vacation at the beach and get some adventure as well. This is a great place to enjoy with your family to get your cardio and blood flowing.

Especially with the kids this is a great place to burn all the food. This is an aerial park where you will be climbing and walking on ropes. The kids and Adults will enjoy this adventure. An outdoor ropes course where you for sure have fun.
